Travelling with a pet

Eurostar won't take my dog: how do I get from London to Paris with it?

Short answer

By car, on the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle: Eurostar accepts no animals between London and Paris, apart from guide and assistance dogs. Your dog stays with you in the car during the 35-minute crossing. With a chauffeur, door to door, London ↔ Paris costs €1,650 in an E-Class and €2,320 in a V-Class, in either direction, Eurotunnel, tolls and your pet's Le Shuttle fee included.

In detail

The other options are the ferry or Le Shuttle in your own car. On the ferry, a pet usually stays alone in the car, on the closed deck, for the whole crossing; on Le Shuttle it never leaves you. Precellence Service drives both ways, London → Paris as well as Paris → London, and always takes Le Shuttle. Large dog or large crate: we recommend the van (V-Class). The car is cleaned and deodorised after every journey with a pet, and there is water on board for your pet on long journeys.

Papers: to enter the European Union, a UK resident shows an animal health certificate (AHC) issued less than 10 days before; since 22 April 2026, a UK resident can no longer use an EU pet passport to travel back into the European Union. An EU resident shows their pet's EU passport, provided no rabies booster was given in the UK during the stay.

At Folkestone, the pet check is done on foot in the terminal, about an hour before departure, and French customs may ask to see the pet and its papers on arrival. Towards Great Britain, five pets at most per vehicle, and a tapeworm treatment for dogs 24 hours to 5 days before arrival. For long-distance trips, 48 hours' notice is recommended.
