At what age can a child sit in the front seat of a car in France?
Short answer
From the age of 10. Before that, article R412-3 of the French Highway Code forbids it, except in three cases: a rear-facing seat with the front airbag switched off; a vehicle with no rear seats or no rear seat belts; rear seats that cannot be used or are already taken by other children under 10.
In detail
In every case, a child under 10 travels in an approved car seat or booster suited to their build and weight (article R412-2); only taxis and public transport are exempt, not VTCs (private hire cars). Breaking these rules is a fourth-class offence.
In our vehicles, child seats are fitted in the back: in a V-Class, up to 2 child or booster seats and 1 infant seat; in a saloon, a booster is provided without difficulty, a child or infant seat subject to availability. Seats are free, on request when you book, with the age of each child.
The price of the ride does not change: €159 between CDG and Paris in a V-Class, per vehicle.
